I'm always so nervous trying dishes without reviews! Just I only thought this sounded good. And information technology IS good, so that was a relief. I didn't accept sherry, just I looked up a substitution chart and it said I could use orange juice or pineapple juice. But I didn't have those either! So I looked up aNOTHER nautical chart and information technology told me I could use vanilla excerpt! So I did (one tsp for the i tbsp sherry). And the gravy just smelled so good. And thickened up wonderfully. All in all, a great, like shooting fish in a barrel dish. Only serve over rice! :)

This doesn't utilise to this recipe specifically, but I am sick and tired of reading bad reviews from people who oasis't even tried the recipe. Every melt tweaks a recipe a bit, merely to give information technology a bad review? Too much time on their hands. Permit'southward encounter some of THEIR recipes!
12/04/2011
this recipe is excellent as is. Delight, people....review the recipe equally it is, and rate it as information technology is!! Adding or changing the ingredients alters the recipe, and therefore is not a true rating of the original recipe.
09/09/2006
Nosotros loved this recipe, cheers! I used French Onion soup instead of the beef broth, and would highly recommend using ground Angus for the beef. The flavor is wonderful, thank you!
02/x/2011
This was VERY yummy!!! As always, I made the recipe EXACTLY equally it is and I accept to say I owuldn't change a thing.
09/08/2006
Good recipe, simply using fresh herbs and spices really helps...fresh grated garlic, minced onions or grated onion, fresh cracked pepper etc. really makes a big difference...a little chopped parsley likewise adds something.
03/09/2006
These were great! I decided to follow another user's directions and add a splash of red vino vinegar (in place of the sherry that I didn't accept) and it pretty much ruined the gravy beyond conventionalities. Don't use vinegar! I luckily had an instant chocolate-brown gravy mix that I whipped up last minute. Thank God you have to remove the meat or else it would have been ruined too! The mode I saved it was great and I ate it on tiptop of white rice.

Cheers, Anne, for a wonderful recipe. It is definitely a keeper. Equally others take suggested, do double the gravy. My husband did the cooking outside in an electric skillet. Couldn't have been better!
09/ten/2006
Nosotros only loved this! I did double the gravy and used a can of onion soup, mmmm mmmm good! I used rice merely next time I brand this I will make information technology with mashed potatoes, this is the best gravy! hum!
09/08/2006
Added couple cloves fresh garlic & half box of fresh mushrooms--threw them in nutrient processor with the onion so they would mix with the meat better. Instead of beef broth used half a large container of mushroom goop and small container of french onion soup(not dry mix) to brand the gravy. So added rest of mushrooms and a sliced onion, put the lid on and let the whole thing simmer. Adding some sour cream to gravy just before serving with noodles makes is skillful as well. I buy the mushroom goop and the French onion soup at the health food store or in health food section of grocery. Most of my family unit are addicted to mushrooms so the broth is used in everything merely dessert.

This is one of the best recipes I've made off this site! It was and so good that actually no changes were needed to make it family unit pleasing. The meat was perfectly seasoned and tender, and it was really easy to make. The merely changes I fabricated were to fry the patties in nonstick cooking spray instead of all the oil (the meat was greasy enough that this worked really well!) and I as well skipped the sherry, merely considering I never continue that in my house. Every single person in my family liked this dish, and that is proverb a lot!!!! They were even requesting that I make information technology again this week...which I might do! I served these over noodles, and it was a cheap, tasty, family-friendly meal that I will make again and once more. Thanks so much for sharing...this is a winner!!!
01/31/2011
5 stars all the way! I used ground turkey instead of beef. Didn't have onion or garlic powders, and so I used the real stuff :) My husband didn't await to like it (his words!) from the recipe pic, but went back for seconds and said he would similar this on a regular basis! My kids tore it up :)
02/09/2011
This popped upwards yesterday as the Recipe of the Twenty-four hours every bit I pulled up the site in the hopes of looking for a new turkey cutlet recipe...needless to say I made this instead! Soo happy I did! This recipe is a bully way to utilize chop meat in a not and so deadening fashion and the ingredients are things we all have in our pantry, pretty much. The just 2 substitutions I fabricated were soy sauce for the worcestershire and marsala cooking vino for the sherry as I did not have those 2 in the business firm. I did double the gravy mixture...doubled the flour, beef broth, and marsala to make more of the gravy as I knew my family would desire to smother the rice with it. Always love extra gravy and it tasted fabulous so I was sooo happy I doubled it. This is def a keeper for my house! Nice way to make something different with chop meat, had the feel of salisbury steaks, deeeeelishh!!
05/12/2006
Excellent!! The gravy this produces (which I doubled) is skillful enough to swallow alone in a bowl! I couldn't stop sneaking spoonfulls of this gravy! The merely matter I will add is that fifty-fifty though I tripled the amt. of everything for the gravy (ie, iii cups of broth) it was still a bit thick. I fabricated a note to quadruple the broth adjacent time, to sparse it out simply a bit. I served this over oven-roasted potatoes, and it was just divine. Likewise, as a note, I did non take beef broth, then I made bootleg broth w/ ONION SOUP MIX, which makes a lovely, savory goop w/ onion flavor! I highly recommend this route...information technology adds fifty-fifty more delicious flavor! Endeavor it..I think you will be delighted with the taste information technology produces! Give thanks you, and am planning on making this for visiting relatives in a couple of weeks, as it has now become 1 of my all-time favorite recipes!
02/08/2011
Wonderful
02/03/2010
This is a very good recipe. As with all of the recipes from this site, I make it as written; that fashion I rate the recipe submitted...not the ane I made and have to accept responsibleness for the outcome! I was out of basis chuck so I used basis Buffalo. The low fatty content of the meat and deep flavor worked very nice with the gravy. Served it with mashed potato'south and green beans.
06/05/2014
If y'all modify or tweak a recipe then don't charge per unit it! How can you be disquisitional of a dish that yous took liberties with? I volition exit a review if I followed the recipe explicitly and it came out ho-hum...and then and just and so will I review it. Most of these recipes are a bang-up starting place for a great meal to conform your personal tastes, yet, the cease result is your personal course and not the submission's.
08/30/2010
Ok i wanted to give this a 4.5 stars but the sense of taste was worth the extra .5!!! Amazing TASTE! I fabricated the recipe exactly equally chosen for except I did not use the sherry (didnt take whatsoever on hand). The only reason I wanted to requite a 4.5 star was considering the gravy was very little, not enough to encompass the patties and rice. Only at present that I think most it, I didnt substitute anything for the sherry so thats probaby why.. The little less than 1 lb of basis beef (.ninety to be exact) made 8 small patties, which were perfect size for us. More like a little bigger than a slider. Served over white rice.... This is condolement food at its finest!

Why carp reviewing a recipe if yous alter it to a totally different recipe? Pointless to give a bad review on a recipe you screwed up yourself by not following the directions. o.O My family unit really enjoyed this recipe and I have made it several times since I plant it. Goes swell with homemade mashed potatoes and buttery rolls!
01/27/2011
This was delicious! I made it exactly as written except that I used chopped shallots in place of the onion pulverisation and chopped fresh garlic instead the garlic pulverization. I too quadrupled the gravy (because information technology's as good as everyone says!) using two cups of beef broth and 2 cups of Progresso French Onion soup. Fantastic! If y'all don't make more gravy you'll wish y'all did. I also used very lean seven% fat ground beef and it came out moist and juicy. I browned the hamburgers in olive oil cooking spray rather than vegetable oil. You don't need to cook the hamburgers through because they will cease cooking while simmering in the gravy and be very moist despite using lower fat meat. Served with Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes by Kathleen Burton and Sugar Snap Peas by CJCOLLINS. A fantastic meal!
11/01/2005
I would requite it more than stars, merely i made a few changes and it didnt turn out so well. HA HA.....And so im really not too sure as to how skillful it could be. Only dont do what i did. All i had on hand was italian flavored bread crumbs. And i used sweet onions. The gravy then had no savory rich flavor, it was a sweet after gustation. And the only thing that i really didnt like about the recipe was the season table salt. Im only non fond of it. Kinda of an artifical sense of taste to me. Other than that, Decent.
01/16/2012
Only like the good onetime-fashioned comfort food yous remember from childhood! I've made this recipe many times now, as it'southward a family unit favorite (and volition be dinner tonight too). I agree 100% with the suggestion to double, or even triple the gravy and then you lot get enough to smother your mashed potatoes (and your veggie of pick). I add together a little actress worchestershire in place of sherry, which I more often than not don't accept on hand. I utilise a combo of chicken/beef broth, thus eliminating the extra seasoned salt. I'm also more generous with the garlic/onion powders. I thinly slice two minor onions, which seems to be the perfect amount for us. Try as I might, I can never get 8 patties, and then I e'er brand 6. Served with mashed potatoes and corn, this is hands i of my favorite AR recipes. Piece of cake, yummy, and quick...the perfect philharmonic!
12/06/2011
Then happy to finally see a recipe that has real ingredients and non canned soup, gravy mixes and soup mixes.
01/08/2012
Condolement food at it's best! Reminded me of a dish you would expect in the "olden days." This was very flavorful. The only thing I changed was that I didn't add the sherry (simply because I didn't take whatever). I added Worcestershire sauce to the beef broth instead of the sherry. I'll probably keep doing it this way because I always accept Worcestershire sauce and never have sherry. I served this with hot, buttered egg noodles and light-green beans. Super easy to make...corking weeknight recipe!
08/01/2011
Hamburger steak with gravy is a classic Cajun dish here in South Louisiana (really). I utilise ground round or fifty-fifty chopped sirloin, mix the ingredients into the meat, and let the patties sit in the fridge for nearly an hour before cooking. The flavors mix very nicely and the meat firms up and doesn't fall apart in the skillet. I usually add sliced mushrooms, and too sometimes a few tablespoons of tomato plant sauce, depending on what'due south left over in the fridge. I don't use sherry, simply I cook with scarlet wine in practically everything -- Cabernet Sauvignon or Marsala -- which works swell. And I apply diced fresh garlic because I can't bide garlic powder. COMFORT FOOD TIP: Make extra gravy; reheat it and swallow it over a couple slices of French or Italian bread, especially tardily at nighttime with a bottle of beer!
12/03/2011
I've been making this recipe for years but called information technology Salisbury Steak, served w/mashed potatoes and a veggie or salad. Information technology's a keeper. I wouldn't change one thing! Yummy!
01/31/2006
Cracking Recipe. I used lean ground beef and used Italian Bread crumbs and they came out wonderful. Since I used lean beef I added two Tablespoons of Butter to make the gravy. I omited the Sherry and used ii cups of beef goop for extra gravy. My Hubby loved this recipe. Volition make again.
06/07/2006
Information technology was a rainy solar day here today, then I was really looking for some condolement food. I came across this recipe and saw all the rave reviews so I figured I would try it. I added minced onion, and parsley to the meat mixture and made into 4 patties instead of 8. I doubled the goop omiting the sherry and added italian seasoning and mushrooms to it. The cooking time was accurate, however the taste was very bland. The meat was very "meaty" tasting to say the to the lowest degree, and the gravy wasn't that impressive. It tasted like a tv dinner. We really didn't care for this, and I will be on the search for a better recipe. Cheers for sharing.
12/16/2004
Excellent! A very hearty and satisfying dish when coupled with mashed potatoes to put that thick savory gravy on. The simply alter I made to this superb recipe was to double it and I'thou glad I did. My whole family loved information technology and requested we take it again soon. I'thousand emailing this one on to my friends and putting information technology in the front end of my recipe box.
09/24/2012
This was delicious. I added mushrooms and I used a little worcestshire in the gravy since I did not have Sherry. My kids and my picky married man loved it! Nosotros will brand this again!
01/25/2011
Only modify I fabricated was to use matzo repast in lieu of bread crumbs because information technology was what I had on hand. Splendid!
08/18/2009
yummmm soo good! i used butter instead of oil, about 2 tbsp. made 6 burgers. I made the beefiness goop with a beef boullion cube and hot water. I as well mixed the flour with cold milk (about i/2 cup) and added it afterwards I added the broth. really Actually GOOD!
02/02/2010
This is a really tasty hamburger steak. I was really impressed. Lots of season and heats up well equally left overs for the next day. The second time I fabricated these I did double the gravey office of recipe. Served with mashed potatoes. The kids and married man beloved it. Thank you for sharing!
02/fourteen/2011
Very tasty recipe my whole family unit loved information technology. Made it according to directions. Will definatley brand this again. Could easily double gravy function though then yous have extra for mash potatoes. :-)
11/28/2011
Made this exactly like the recipe and information technology was outstanding. Hubby couldn't stop eating. I served it with mashers and succotash, merely like the Salisbury steak at Cheesecake Factory! I agree with others that it wouldn't hurt to double the gravy. Very tasty!
12/xviii/2010
This recipe is astonishing. Information technology'south my married man's favorite dish that I make and he requests it all the time. Likewise, I've made this recipe for several people and they ever dear it. Many of them said they've never liked hamburger steaks earlier. I like to proceed this recipe close to the original because it'south that adept. The only thing i change is that I add mushrooms and double the gravy and so we can put it on mashed potatoes. Definitely give this recipe a try!
04/02/2012
wow! what can I say? this was the all-time recipe I always used for hamburger steaks. I take fabricated information technology twice and so far and the terminal time I served it with fries seasoned with oregano and parmesan cheese (greek way)...and put the brown gravy over the chips (cajun way)...so yummy.. a KEEPER!!!! I used more onions than suggested and i also used 2 pounds of ground sirloin so I doubled everything and yet made about 7 to viii of them
09/14/2006
Reminds me of my childhood when my Mom would make Salibury steak. I purchased hamburger steak patties, so I didn't use the egg or bread crumbs. I fryed the patties, removed them and fryed the onions, added balance of the ingredients to make gravy added patties to gravy and spooned gravy over meat, covered and baked in a 300 oven for nearly 45 minutes. Very tasty, will brand again!
11/02/2012
Fabricated this last night and nosotros loved it! Made every bit directed. Loved the sherry in the gravy. I wish I had made more gravy. We look forward to having this over again!
01/06/2011
Yummy. I made minimum changes, more often than not out of necessity. But mostly I made information technology as is, and it was a satisfying meal. I dredged the patties in flour before frying them. I didn't have seasoned common salt, so I used plain common salt in the meat and omitted it in the gravy. No sherry, and then I tried the hint of replacing with bootleg vanilla extract. I doubled the gravy (but didn't double the extract).
04/28/2011
Anybody in my home ate this and liked it. That is zero brusk of astonishing in my houseold, since generally at least i person dosen't like something. (wouldn't it be smashing to please everyone, all the time? ehhhhhhh........) I believe I didn't make my "steaks" thin enough, later cooking they became sorta rounded. Very yummy!
07/31/2011
This makes the juciest burgers and the gravy was bully even the next mean solar day.The only thing I saw that information technology was not salty enough had to add salt at table. I did effort by adding mushrooms but I won't do that again, information technology was not as good and don't slice the onions and then sparse they tend to cook abroad. But is is probably the showtime Hamburger Steak recipe I have gotten that the meat was not tough and tasteless. Try it you will similar it. The ruby vino is side by side to be added.
03/26/2011
This was dandy! The gravy is really the best part. I doubled information technology, and I still want to brand more....it would be good on a lot of things. I think the quality of your footing beef is probably important here. I didn't have cooking sherry or onions and so I left those out, and I used regular salt because I don't like seasoned table salt. This is a recipe yous can mess with to your liking and still take the aforementioned basic not bad matter. I boiled some potatoes in beef broth to become with it. Fifty-fifty my picky hubby said this tasted like something you would get at a really good restaurant!
12/10/2010
Good Recipe, however, the sherry in the gravy just didn't do it for me...I volition brand this over again merely I will omit the sherry. Thanks.
12/17/2004
These were fantastic!! I added some mushrooms and served them with hot buttered noodles. The kids absolutely loved them!! Definitely a keeper!!
12/27/2010
Easy, fast, and delicious...keeper!
x/14/2012
I've made this on a couple of occasions and I beloved it, peculiarly when dank fall days fix in. I've made information technology as is with great results, I've doubled information technology with no bug and I've tweeked it to my particular tastes and each time it comes out great! In my almost recent version, I changed up the spices a bit and included some smoked paprika and a teeny bit of chili powder and thyme. I also added nigh a tablespoon of my favorite hot sauce in with the eggs and beat them to mix it all together earlier calculation it to the meat mixture. Rather than adding the onions with the meat to cook, I dice them and add together them to the drippings with 8oz. of chopped mushrooms and 1-two tablespoons of butter. Instead of sherry, I used Madiera wine. Increase the flour past 50% and after adding the broth and wine, I add 1/two-3/4 cups of milk. The little bit of actress richness is wonderful.
04/08/2010
My only change was I left out the sherry and added sliced fresh mushrooms. My LOVED this! Any time I make an AR recipe and he cleans his plate and asks for 2nds, y'all get v stars.
11/05/2011
Very practiced! I doubled the gravy ingredients and added a can of French onion soup and golden mushroom soup. I also sautéed the onions with a few mushrooms after the meat and then added all back to the pot with the gravy. I might add together extra seasoning adjacent fourth dimension - possibly a Montreal steak seasoning or some steak sauce.
02/x/2011
This was delicious!! I fabricated it as written and was impressed with how tasty this dish is. The cloak-and-dagger is in the seasoned salt so don't substitute it out. I did use seasoned breadcrumbs and fabricated 4 flat patties. Information technology's not the prettiest dish but it is one of the meliorate ones I have made on this site as written. It tasted like a really good salisbury steak ... the meat was soft and flavorful and the onion gravy was only enough (I did use low sodium beef broth). Served with mashed potatoes and veggies ... I volition make this once more without a uncertainty. Thanks Anne Marie, I found a keeper today!
12/04/2011
I agree with Reviewer Flo, it is not helpful when people charge per unit the recipe with all of their "changes". I made the recipe as it is written and my husband and I enjoyed it very much. The next time I make this I volition double the gravy especially because we had mashed potatoes as a side with it. Other than that, information technology was a good easy quick meal and I already had well-nigh of the ingredients on mitt...only had to buy the beef and broth :)
02/21/2011
Really skillful! Considering of dietary issues I used half ground turkey and half sausage instead of beef but it turned out just fine. I didn't have sherry so crimson vino was substituted and I wish I had made double the gravy to drown mashed potatoes, simply that will exist the adjacent fourth dimension. Thank you for the recipe - nosotros'll have it over again soon!
12/04/2011
Mmmm. Yummy! Simple and satisfying. My family loved information technology. I added some mushrooms and served with mashed potatoes and peas. Very skilful repast and I will definitely make again and again!
03/01/2011
Skilful recipe. Keen with some upgrades. Burgers need more than spice. Mayber some garlic? I needed to add more flour to make gravy thicker. Definately double the gravy and I would suggest using hamburger with more than than 10% fat for thicker gravy.
05/12/2012
This was a great easy recipe. I mixed i/2 ground pork and 1/2 footing beef. My onion gravy was a little heavy in onions! So next time I'll cutting the onions back, but other wise I'll be making this again!!
05/20/2011
Mimosa recommended this and I made it with venison. My husband LOVED it. I doubled the gravy.
09/xi/2014
This is my go to hamburger steak recipe. I made information technology the starting time time with cooking sherry, simply information technology'southward not something I go along in my pantry, so I just omit information technology now. Sometimes I also supersede the seasoned table salt in the patties with Tony Chachere's original creole seasoning. I dearest that this recipe is flexible and easily modified! I will continue to use it!
08/21/2006
A absurd, rainy 24-hour interval ruined our menu programme of grilled burgers then I gave this recipe a try. It was delicious. I idea I would have leftovers, but at that place wasn't a scrap left. I served it with mashed potatoes and greenish beans. The only alter I fabricated was using bootleg craven stock as I had a lot in my freezer. Y'all would never know, information technology was wonderful!
03/14/2011
Really nice hamburger steak. I found this recipe when scouring my pantry for ingredients for dinner. I didn't have breadcrumbs or an egg, and so I substituted equal amounts of dry oats and mayo. Worked beautifully. My picky children loved it. I'll try it again with the actual ingredients, and I'thou sure information technology will be equally succulent. Thanks for a great go-to recipe.
09/09/2006
Need to double the gravy recipe. Needs more vegetable oil. I reduced the salt mixed with meat to 1/4 tsp. The gravy is exceedingly salty--I reduced the corporeality of salt for the gravy to 1/8 tsp and it was all the same besides salty. I suppose that was from the sodium in the Worcestershire sauce and broth. I volition non attempt this recipe over again and volition get back to using my Salisbury Steak recipe.
03/29/2011
I sure loved this meal! My inlaws own a dairy farm, so we become unlimited amounts of ground beef and are always looking for new ways to serve it. These steaks were moist and very flavorful. I didn't have beef broth, so i used chicken and information technology was yummy. Served with taters and veggys it was a perfect Sunday repast. My hubby thought they were real packaged steaks (we take some at the farm that kind of expect like these...just aren't that practiced.)
09/14/2006
I've been looking for a "Salisbury Steak" recipe for years and this fits the beak perfectly. I doubled the gravy office of the recipe so I had plenty to smothered my mashed potatoes with information technology. The recipe as written makes one cup of gravy and that isn't near enough for all that meat. Yummy is all I tin say!!!!! Thanks then much for sharing!
01/04/2013
This dish was simple, and it was quick. My whole family loved it. Thanks for sharing.
05/20/2011
Made this last night and we all loved it! I'one thousand not likewise good at making gravy only but followed the directions and it actually turned out well! I pretty much followed the recipe as written except I didn't have seasoned table salt and so only added in some garlic powder, and used a LOT of onions in the gravy as we beloved onions! I will definitely make this again.
08/26/2010
These were so like shooting fish in a barrel to make and delicious. Reminded me of the TV dinner salisbury steaks we had as kids. I didn't accept any Worcestershire sauce so I sub'd vinegar and extra garlic salt. Bang-up weeknight meal.
03/24/2011
This is a regular on our table. I normally triple information technology. There is plenty of the succulent gravy to serve with garlic mashed potatoes. Fantastic recipe.
08/23/2008
My kids really liked this one. I followed the recipe for the meat patties only made some pretty large changes on the gravy. I simply couldn't get myself to use hamburger grease equally the base for my gravy so here is what I did. I cooked the patties on a stovetop griddle so removed to some foil to keep warm. And then I cooked my onions in another pan in a scrap of olive oil, sprinkling with some seasoning salt, and so removed to keep warm. For the gravy I heated together 1 can of cream of mushroom soup, about one/2 loving cup beef broth, about 1/ii cup milk, and the sherry. I placed the patties in a large serving dish, topped with the onions and and so poured the gravy over the top. It was great! Don't over season the meat. The amounts shown are plenty.
09/x/2006
This was succulent. Fast, like shooting fish in a barrel, tasty! I concord, double the gravy. I substituted chopped garlic and minced onion in steak mixture. Crawly, thank you for the recipe, it's a keeper.
10/26/2010
The recipe was first-class; I don't personally care for the texture of the ground beef cooked this mode. The flavors were terrific. I might try adapting this with cubed steak or other cut of beef.
09/19/2011
What a groovy recipe!! The simply matter I did dissimilar was I added lipton onion soup with the beef instead of the other listed spices. Added peachy flavor, My whole family (including my picky 5 year former) LOVED it!
09/01/2007
I fabricated this for dinner last nighttime and thought it was great. The burgers were perfectly seasoned. I doubled the gravy and left out the sherry. The only matter I would do dissimilar next time would be to saute the onions after removing the patties, instead of all at once.
eleven/22/2010
Tin can you lot say "comfort food" at its finest? I initially fabricated this thinking it was something my married man would savor, but I enjoyed it as as much equally him. Followed the recipe and served it with mashed potatoes. Next time I may double the sauce. Yum!
08/13/2005
Totally disappointed by this recipe. Really don't understand why all the high ratings. I had to add so many other seasonings to make it edible. Won't be making again.
12/09/2007
This actually went over well for Sunday dinner. I followed the recipe to a T except for I didn't accept any sherry (and we don't like it anyway) so I subbed in Maggi seasoning. I too cooked the onions after I cooked the patties. Next time I will follow the others advice and double the gravy as it is delicious. Thank you for a cracking one-time-fashioned, homestyle recipe, nosotros definitely will be using this 1 often. PS. Hubby said patties would be practiced on their ain every bit homemade hamburgers as well.
03/12/2011
I followed this recipe as it was written and idea it was just ok. My husband thought it was adept merely nothing special and I concur. Probably won't be making this ane again.
04/01/2011
Tastes like meatloaf in a fraction of the time!!! Thanks.
08/12/2011
I Honey these hamburger steaks. Cook em with double gravy, mashed potatoes, and corn and information technology's only similar my favorite television receiver dinner, only homemade and a million times better!
03/09/2015
Not for me. Not enough gravy for the mashed potatoes . Gravy also thick. Did not like the taste of the gravy. Hamburger steaks were bland. Followed recipe exactly. Won't make this again
03/08/2011
Everyone liked it. My three youngest, pickiest eaters loved it. I had to substitute craven broth for the beefiness broth since it was all I had.
04/28/2006
Excellent recipe! Thanks so much! I agree that the cooking sherry makes this recipe!
12/03/2011
Note: Serve this in a bowl over rice, top it with a fried(sunny side up or easy over) and you lot accept a Hawaiian "Loco Moco." Condolement food!
12/16/2010
What a cracking recipe. I didn't employ any sherry but other than that I followed every bit written. Served with Savory Herb Rice from this site and it was a swell repast!
06/24/2011
I made this for my dad (I don't like hamburger steak) and he said "brand certain you hang on to that recipe". So I gauge this is a keeper!
11/10/2011
This was absolutely wonderful. Information technology was too really like shooting fish in a barrel!! I actually loved the gravy. The but thing I did different was I added about 2 cloves minced garlic to the onions. Adjacent time I will use more than onions though. Thanks for the recipe!!
11/18/2005
YUM, condolement food at it'due south all-time. My young man said it was definetly restaurant quality. I added sliced fresh mushrooms along with the onions... I will use more than onions side by side time as well. For the gravy, I used CONCENTRATED beef broth, just I used a total cup of it. I call up that's what fabricated my gravy sooo savory and tasty. Also, I added a nuance of crimson wine instead of the sherry, and also a dash of milk to make it a footling creamy. This is definetly a very very quick and piece of cake recipie that is delicious!
03/fourteen/2011

pretty close to the fashion gram ma made this no sherry was used to expensive. Mashed potatoes is what nosotros all ways had. This Dish was fabricated back years ago because it cheap and filling. Of class Hamburger back then was .39 cents a Lb. sometimes less.

Wow! We LOVE this and volition never buy packaged or jarred gravy again...yous can sub a little red wine vinegar for the sherry and added fresh mushrooms as it simmered. I've also prepared this gravy using the spices with the leftover juice from a crockpot pot roast, which we have twice a month.

I gave this recipe 5 stars even though I did make a couple minor changes. I made my ain fresh breadstuff crumbs & didn't use the sherry or seasoned common salt in the gravy. I did however make the patties every bit written. I also doubled the flour & broth for more gravy. It was a hit with my son, so this one's a keeper!

Really adept comfort food that I call back eating when I was a child. I used actress lean beefiness, so this ended up being quite healthy. I served it with sauteed kale and sweet potatoes. I volition make this over again whenever I want a smash from the past!

I substituted A1 Bold Steak Sauce for the Worchestershire Sauce as I did non have it on mitt. I doubled the gravy fixins and added a small can of sliced mushrooms-personal preference. MOIST AND DELICIOUS. This recipe can be prepared early in the day, merely prior to serving you lot will take to add a little water to the gravy to get the consistency you want. Hamburger patties remained moist and flavorful.

I think this is a very practiced recipe, just was a tad bland for our taste. I had to increase the seasonings and added some sliced mushrooms. However, I will go along this in my repertoire because information technology'south easy, inexpensive, and uses ingredients usually on manus. I put the patties in the fridge for about 30 minutes to assist them concord together during cooking--didn't take any problems with breakage. Thank you for sharing!

Succulent! Such a homestyle meal, tasted like something my grandma would brand. I only fabricated vi patties instead of 8. I cooked up nigh a cup of bowtie pasta and stirred information technology into the gravy at the cease. Turned out great.

This was crawly!! My husband even liked it and he hates cooked onions. I am with Naples on a few things. 1. The patties were small equally 8, 6 would have been better. 2. Cooking the onions carve up is a MUST but I did them after the meat in order to get the flavor and the bits. iii. I did use flour this time but I volition use corn starch next fourth dimension. And in that location volition most definitely be a next time. I also didnt have any sherry so I apply more Worcestershire sauce instead. This is definitely going to be in my favorite recipes rotation. Thanks Anne

Piece of cake and skilful. I didn't alter a matter. I would make this over again, just I might change a few things, like add mushrooms and maybe a little onion in the patties...It's definatly a start to a cracking recipe.
